The Next Baseline
The Next Baseline is a podcast about moving forward after disruption. Hosted by Danny DeJesus, the show explores transformational resilience, life transitions, personal growth, professional growth, leadership, and co-parenting through the lens of structure, clarity, intentional change, and a trauma-informed perspective. Using the C2R2E Framework, which stands for Collapse, Confrontation, Realignment, Reclamation, and Elevation, each episode is designed to help listeners think more clearly, strengthen their decision-making, and create a stronger baseline for the next stage of life.
This is not about empty motivation or quick fixes. It is about practical insight for people navigating change in real life. From personal growth and professional development to leadership, co-parenting strategy, and life transitions, The Next Baseline offers structured conversations that help listeners build clarity, direction, and a more grounded way forward.

What If Your Next Chapter Needs Silence
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Your next breakthrough might not need more hustle. It might need more quiet. I’m Danny DeJesus, and I’m exploring the third phase of C2R2E, Realignment, through a simple idea: clarity shows up when we stop living in constant reaction. If you’ve been pushing hard but still feel stuck, scattered, or unsure what direction to take, this conversation is a reset for your mind and your environment.
I define “chaos” in a way that hits close to home. It is not only emergencies. It is anything that keeps you reactive: nonstop notifications, drama, gossip, doom scrolling, filling every weekend because being alone feels uncomfortable, or letting other people’s opinions drown out your own voice. That kind of noise quietly steals reflection, and without reflection we lose awareness. Without awareness, clarity gets buried, and it becomes harder to make decisions that actually build the next baseline we want.
Realignment is not about changing your life overnight or forcing action before you understand what is true. It is about creating the conditions where wisdom can grow: calm, space, better inputs, and a protected attention span. I share why “boring” routines can be powerful, why boredom is not the enemy, and how small shifts in your environment can reshape your thinking, your decisions, and ultimately your future. I also give four practical questions you can use right away to find where you experience genuine calm and what small change can create space for reflection this week.
If this helps, subscribe, share it with a friend who feels overloaded, and leave a review so more people can find The Next Baseline. What is one kind of noise you are ready to mute?

Breakthroughs Happen In Quiet
SPEAKER_01Have you ever noticed that some of your biggest breakthroughs they didn't exactly happen while you were out busy chasing or grinding grinding away? In fact, they probably some of your breakthroughs probably happened when your life finally had a moment of quiet to it or or even a moment of tranquility, pretty much a time to think, and I've talked about this in previous episodes. So with that, perhaps that that quiet moment where you finally got the thought of a breakthrough, perhaps it came because you were taking a drive, you went for a walk, perhaps you were in the zone at the gym. Maybe you were sitting on your porch or on your balcony outside your home, just after a long day, just contemplating out into the distance. Or maybe even it happened during what may have felt like an ordinary Tuesday or Wednesday, just pick pick your night of the week. And here's the thing: nothing, it was nothing exciting, nothing dramatic. It was just another day. And somewhere in an ordinary moment, something magical happens, something clicks in your mind. And perhaps it's a new idea, a new perspective, a realization that you may have never considered before. And perhaps you've been in a place where you've just been thinking a lot lately. Because when you look back over the course of your life, sometimes the biggest changes don't exactly happen during moments of chaos. And I'm going to explain what what I mean by chaos later on later on in this episode. So just follow me. But when we talk about breakthrough, when we talk about a moment of victory or the potential of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, it doesn't happen. It doesn't happen because of a time where you have all this chaos coming coming down. In fact, it's probably during a moment of, as we mentioned, quiet and the moments that feel settled for ourselves. And it's not because problems all of a sudden magically just disappear and they no longer exist, but on the contrary, you could still have problems. But really, and I've said this before in moments of solitude, and maybe it's perhaps we reach a moment of clarity and breakthrough because we actually had enough space to hear ourselves think and to really reflect on whatever it is that we're trying to achieve.
The Next Baseline And C2R2E
SPEAKER_01So with that, welcome back to another episode of The Next Baseline. I am your podcast host, Danny Jesus. And this is the podcast where we explore the one key and central question: what do we build now to reach our next baseline? So over the last several episodes, we've been walking through the whole C2R2E methodology. We started out with collapse, which is known as the signal. Something isn't working. Then we move to phase two, confrontation, and confrontation demands and asks us to honestly face reality as it is. And brutal to be and it involves brutal honesty. And then we spent another episode talking about resistance and why we naturally cling to what's familiar, even when we know something needs to change. And then we get past that, right? We get past the deeper dive of confrontation through resistance, and then we move into the third phase, which is realignment. And
Realignment Is Conditions Not Action
SPEAKER_01so I want, so with that, let's dive deeper into this topic. And what I want to do is I want to begin by setting the foundation and the mindset for this phase, because I think there's a potential for misunderstanding, and I want to make sure that I avoid that. Because realignment is not about changing your life overnight. So it's not about, again, and I've said this before, not about necessarily taking action right away. It's really about creating the conditions that are necessary for change to become possible. And there's a key difference between those, between those two ideas. So, for example, think about trying to tune a radio while someone is shouting in your ear, or trying to solve a difficult problem in the middle of a loud party. You can try, but it's very difficult to do that. And not because you don't have the skills and the tools to necessarily do that, but because there's a lot of noise. And when there's a lot of noise, it's very, very difficult to stay focused so that you can get you can get clear on what needs to happen. And in the same way that we're that we're wanting to mitigate the noise, I think a lot of that works true in life as well. Because it's difficult to realign anything in your life when your mind is constantly reacting to the noise of life. For example, and these may be some common ones that you may see in yourself or in the lives of others. But for the purpose of this, let's really look at ourselves. It could be anywhere from reacting to drama, reacting to constant notifications and the pinging of your phone, the pinging of text, reacting to everyone's opinions. Everyone's going to have an opinion. Reacting to the next crisis. And the thing is, life is filled with collapsible moments. And so we're always going to have some sort of crisis. That's just the way life is. Also, reacting to whatever demands your attention today. And there is so much happening out there. There's so many things out there vying for our attention. And then, you know, something else here is eventually you become so busy reacting that you forget to reflect, to reflect on your day, to reflect on you, to reflect how you showed up. And here's the thing: we need to be deliberate in spending time in reflection. And this is why. Because reflection is where realignment begins.
Defining Chaos As Reactivity
SPEAKER_01Now, going back real quick to chaos, and I mentioned that at the beginning, and I want to better define it. Because when I talk about chaos, I'm not just talking about emergencies. Chaos at the heart, at the heart of it, is anything that consistently keeps you in a reactive state. And sometimes that's constant conflict, sometimes it's gossip, sometimes it's feeling every weekend because being alone feels uncomfortable. And we live in a modern day and age where we constantly feel like we need to be connected. We see this on social media. We see that that being alone, especially within our own thoughts, is uncomfortable. And when it comes to social media, sometimes it's the endless doom scrolling, and sometimes it's also saying yes to everything. Sometimes it's also about constantly asking everyone else what they think instead of learning to hear your own thoughts, to take responsibility for your own voice. And sometimes we give our agency away.
SPEAKER_00So all of this is chaos. And so again, chaos doesn't have to be some crazy emergency.
SPEAKER_01It's just anything, again, that's going to keep you in a state of reactivity. With that, you know, chaos is going to look different for all of us. But at the end of the day, it's usually going to have the same effect. What it does, and what I think chaos is really good at, it's really good about drowning, drowning out clarity. And having a sense of clarity, and I've touched on this already before. So these aren't nothing of what I'm saying here is anything new when you look at previous episodes of my work. And so when you think about clarity, here's the thing: clarity matters because clarity only comes before before you have a sense of direction where you're going. So again, if you've been listening to this series, you know you you've probably noticed something that I've I've intentionally slowed down this process. Slow down this process in understanding to break down C2R2E. Because collapse is not about action, confrontation is not about action. Even resistance is not about action.
SPEAKER_00And why is this?
SPEAKER_01Because I don't believe that it is wise to take action on anything before fully understanding it. And I'm not saying you have to have the perfect plan to execute, that's not what I'm saying. But what I'm saying is you need to understand what the problem is enough so that you know what decisions that you potentially need to make. And at the end of the day, it's and that's for a whole different conversation. But there's never going to be a perfect decision or a perfect time that that doesn't exist. You only have the right now and the information that you have, and you make decisions based off the information you have, not the information you wish you have.
SPEAKER_00But with that, you know, we don't take action until we have clarity, a sense of clarity.
Why Clarity Comes Before Decisions
SPEAKER_01Because when you have clarity, that leads to understanding. And understanding, to reach a level of understanding, it's going to require space and time.
Quiet Routines And Personal Growth
SPEAKER_01So when I think about my own story, you know, I don't remember one dramatic moment where everything all of a sudden just becomes clear overnight. You know, we can look at my life right now as a successful, you know, person individual that has navigated single fatherhood, has navigated a 20-plus, you know, military career, has navigated education. But I've also had, you know, story, you know, fail a lot of failure moments along the way, too. But the only way I navigated through failure, through the trials and tribulations of life was because of quieter moments in my life, having routines. Routines that can even seem very mindless and boring. You know, when I talk about routines, it's the everyday. It's the going to work, going to the gym, coming home, repeating the process. And a lot of times there was nothing exciting about that. There was not this sense of constant excitement happening in my life. There wasn't always another distraction. There wasn't always another opinion competing for my attention. What there was, there was just enough quiet in my life that I finally started noticing things and connecting dots, which led me to ask different questions so that I can finally get to the to the other side of whatever issues I was navigating and start creating the life that I was looking for or was looking to have. So start seeing possibilities where I may have not seen possibility before. And looking back, you know, I think having quiet routines, it didn't slow my growth down by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I think it made growth through me very, very possible. So growth didn't happen in the grind. It didn't happen in the loudness and the noise. It didn't happen through the constant connection with society. It happened in quiet. And that's one of the reasons that I don't see boredom, for example, as as an enemy or something to get rid of. And I think there's a lot of times that boredom actually gets a bad reputation because boredom, you know, in fact, what boredom actually does is I think it helps you create space. And space creates reflection, and reflection, I think, creates awareness. Awareness leads to clarity. And when you have clarity, then you can be you can begin the process of realignment. Again, realignment is the third phase of C2R2E. So when every empty moment gets filled with noise, I think, and it's my own personal belief that we rob ourselves of the opportunity to discover what's trying to emerge. And sometimes the next chapter of your life isn't hiding from you. In fact, it's waiting for enough quiet to introduce itself. So again, if you're looking for a sign, if you're looking for what to do next, I'm going to ask you to take some moment in the quiet and see what happens. Now, what I'm not saying is this doesn't mean that you go ahead and isolate yourself from the world. It doesn't mean that you avoid people, and it certainly doesn't mean that life becomes easy. What it does mean is that you're becoming intentional about the environment you're creating around for yourself.
Boredom Creates Space For Insight
SPEAKER_01You're protecting your attention, you're protecting your peace, you're protecting your ability to think. Because if everything around you is chaotic, everything inside of you, inside of you will also eventually become chaotic as well. And it's difficult to build a new baseline from a reactive place, a reactive mind, from thoughts that are going all over the place. We have to control our thoughts. We have to remind our thoughts. And this is why I believe realignment is less about changing your circumstances and in fact more about changing your environment, not just your physical environment, but your mental environment, your emotional environment, the inputs you're allowing into your life every single day. Because those inputs are eventually going to shape your thinking. And your thinking is going to shape your decisions. And your decisions is going to shape your next baseline. Everything that has ever come into existence, any invention that has ever come into existence, every book that
Protect Your Inputs Protect Your Mind
SPEAKER_01has ever come to existence, every podcast episode, content that's out there has all come into existence because of the way that we think. So minding your thoughts is more important than ever in this phase of realignment. So before, before we ever talk about building new goals, and if you if you go back to the very beginning of my work, of C2R2E, collapse, confrontation, realignment, reclamation, elevation, we're only on phase three. Collapse, confrontation. We touch on resistance, but resistance is a deeper dive into confrontation. And then we come to phase three, realignment. None of that has touched about building new goals just yet. Or creating new habits or making any type of major life decision. Versus, I think we need to first have to ask a much simpler question that I think we need to get after.
SPEAKER_00And this is a question personalize it for you.
SPEAKER_01Have I ever created enough calm in my life to hear what I'm actually being led toward?
Four Questions For Realignment
SPEAKER_01And I'll say it one more time. Have I created enough calm in my life to hear where I'm actually led towards? And more direct to you, have you created enough calm in your life to hear, to create the space needed to hear where you're actually actually being led to?
SPEAKER_00And if the answer is no to that, the next decision I would recommend you make is perhaps to simply just take some take some time in the calmness of quiet to generate, to give your yourself the time and the space to generate a thoughtful response. And here here's what they are. Question one. Question two. What helps you to think more clearly? And again, clarity is necessary before we start putting things into action. Question three. Where do you experience genuine calm? And last but not least, question four.
SPEAKER_01What small change could you make this week that's going to create more space for reflection? And again, not because the environment of calm is going to solve everything, because it's it's only one piece. It's not going, it's not the end all be all, and it's not going to solve everything. But what would having calm allow you to do is to see the problems for what they are and to view them in a more clear way.
Reclamation Preview And Closing
SPEAKER_01So with that, going back to the beginning to the beginning, if collapse, the first phase asks what isn't working, and confrontation then asks, what is true, then realignment is now asking you, what conditions do you need? Do you need in this season of life to build forward wisely? Because before we can build a new baseline for ourselves, a new reality is really what that is. We need an environment where wisdom can grow, discernment can grow. So with that, on this next on the next episode, and we're talking episode 25 here, on the next episode of the next baseline, we're going to explore the fourth phase of C2R2E. And this is where I think it starts to get exciting, and that's reclamation.
SPEAKER_00The moment you stop simply creating new direction.
SPEAKER_01So I'll say it again, the moment you stop simply creating a new direction and you begin taking ownership of your life again. This is where personal agency begins to come back to you. This is where you get into the driver's seat, into the direction that you want to go for your life. So with that, this is, you know, it's been my pleasure as always to be able to give you these insights. So with that, I'm Danny DeJesus. This has been another episode of the Next Baseline. The links to the entire Elvatis ecosystem is going to be in the description below. So with that, until next time, keep asking the question what do we build now to reach our next baseline? So with that, I wish you all the love, peace, joy, and happiness in the world. And I can't wait to connect with you on the next episode.
